🗓️Habit Implementation🗓️
Last week, I asked you to think about the kind of person you truly want to become—your desired identity. Once you have that clarity, the next step is implementing small habits that support this version of yourself. Sounds easy enough, right? But, if you're like most of us, you've probably tried adopting new habits before and struggled to make them stick.
So, if you know what you want for your life, why is it so hard to actually do it? Is it a lack of motivation? Not enough discipline? Nope. You're simply human—with a human brain. And here's the truth: we can’t rely on motivation alone. Some days, we just won’t feel inspired. That’s normal. The trick is, when you build habits, you don’t need to rely on motivation or willpower. Life gets a lot easier when you automatically do the things you want to do without thinking about it—just like brushing your teeth, driving, or getting dressed. It's second nature.
The key is to automate the behaviors you want to turn into habits.
How do we get started with that? It comes down to being clear about the action, the time, and the place. It’s all about setting an intention for your habit, what researchers call implementation intention. James Clear calls this the Action/Time/Location Strategy. Basically, you say: “I will [ACTION] at [TIME] in [LOCATION].”
Here’s what it might look like in practice:
I will meditate for one minute at 7 a.m. in my kitchen.
I will study Spanish for 20 minutes at 6 p.m. in my bedroom.
I will exercise for one hour at 5 p.m. at my local gym.
We’re going to keep this simple and just focus on one habit for now. Once you get the hang of this formula, you’ll be able to apply it to the other habits you want to build!
So, are you ready to level up? Let’s do this!🙌🏻
